Learn all about pawpaws – United States largest native fruit.

Course Cost: $40 per person, minimum of 2 students (or $80 for 1 student)
Course Duration: Approximately 2-hours.
Overview: In this course you will learn what a pawpaw is, the history of the pawpaw and the flavor and texture of the pawpaw. You will learn about the flowers, when they bloom, and some interesting facts about pollination – hint: they are not pollinated by the bees and butterflies. Hear about how we propagate these beautiful trees on a large scale to sell in our nursery. Get a quick lesson on some of the insects, pests, diseases and critters you have to be on the lookout for and we’ll briefly discuss acetogenins. Lastly, we discuss some of the 176 pawpaw cultivars in existence and make mention of the dozens of varieties that are now extinct.
The above topics are done via powerpoint presentation and you will walk away with a hard copy of this presentation.
After all the seated talking we will stretch our legs a little by strolling through some of our pawpaw plantings here on property. We have 9 fruit producing pawpaw trees onsite and expect that number to double in 2025. We currently have over 100 pawpaw trees planted, but some will take a few more years before they are mature and producing.
If your tour is during the month of September (and if we had a good production year) you’ll get to take a pawpaw home with you to try and experience the culinary bliss for yourself.
