Two Tours to Choose From: Quick Tour or Farm Immersion Tour
Quick Tour
$15 plus $5 per person. Approximately 1/2-hour
In this tour we will do a quick overview into the aspects of a regenerative farm and the nursery. The tour discusses:
- Landscape design
- Unique edible plants
- A walk through the perennial sheet mulch garden
Farm Immersion Tour
$40 plus $10 per person. Approximately 2-hours but can go longer with a lot of questions and interest.
In this tour we will do a deep dive into all aspects of the farm, including:
- Landscape design and the reason behind the various aspects of the design to include plant contour lines, contour beds, swales, food forests and the overall permaculture design.
- Rainwater harvesting and the amount of filtration you may or may not need to do as well as discuss what it takes to make rainwater potable.
- Walk and talk through the perennial sheet mulch garden and talk about the design aspects like companion planting and micro-climates as well as have a discussion on the many perennial plants and herbs in this garden.
- Explore what a food forest is and the required elements as well as some of the 137 plants in our food forest.
- Discussion on the 8 different plant propagation methods that we do on the farm to produce the nursery stock for Great Escape Nursery.
- For the feathered friend enthusiasts, we will talk about brooders, chicken tractors, the elaborate chicken and guinea coops and the large free range run area as well as the solar power system that supports them.
- Compost and potting soil are all made onsite and we give an overview of how we make biochar and integrate it in our composting and soil systems.
- Oh deer – yes, the 4-legged plant mowing machines. We will show you our 5 methods of protecting plants from deer.
