How to Propagate Plants

Course Cost: $50 per person, minimum of 2 students (or $100 for 1 student).
Course Duration: Approximately 3-hours.
In this course you will learn how to propagate plants using the 8 methods we use most here on the farm. We will discuss each method, why we use that method and on which plants. We will show you examples on the farm and you will see our softwood misting system, as well as many of the other techniques we use on the farm. We will give you a mini tour of the farm and point out which plants take best to various kinds of propagation techniques.
You will be provided with a written manual of the course material. The course includes a quick farm tour of our propagation areas and demonstrations will be given on how we propagate plants.
The course focuses on the following topics:
- Asexual vs. Sexual and Methods
- Seed, germination requirements, stratification and scarification.
- Division – dividing Clonal, mounding, and clumping plants
- Root Cuttings
- Tipping
- Grafting
- Softwood Cuttings (summer cuttings)
- Hardwood Cuttings (winter cuttings)
- Air Layering
